Deacon Blue will not be performing at this years Humberfest after flooding caused the organisers to cancel the festival. Discussions are currently underway about the band playing on the rescheduling the date.

Organisers of the HumberFest music festival advertised to take place this weekend have announced that heavy rainfall has forced the event to be rescheduled for the August Bank Holiday weekend.

HumberFest was set to take place from Friday 29th June to Sunday 1st July at a purpose-built arena just outside of the town of Barton-upon-Humber, though flooding to the site has meant that it would not be safe to progress as originally planned.

The festival will now take place during the weekend commencing Friday 24th August. Acts scheduled to perform include Tony Hadley, Deacon Blue, Journey South and the Commitments.

Linda Cressey of HPSS Event Production issued a statement saying: “I can confirm that HumberFest has been postponed. We have agreed that it would be irresponsible of us to try and hold this event in view of the weather and site conditions. We want to assure anyone that has bought tickets that they will be notified of all new dates and outcomes as soon as we can and thank everyone involved for their continued support of this event.”

Organisers hope that all performers will be able to play on the rescheduled dates. The line-up also includes: Go West, ABC, Badness and the Beautiful Couch.

A community day and showcase of thirteen of the region’s best unsigned bands has also been postponed.

Festival Director, Chris Ashton who has been driving the event since August of last year said: “As you’d imagine we are gutted to have to reschedule as we were all ready for the show and a lot of people were looking forward to coming to Barton for the weekend.

With the rain being the way it is, there’s just no way we could safely hold the festival this weekend, so are now rescheduling for the August Bank Holiday weekend.

We’re talking with the bands and already have confirmation that some of the main acts are available that weekend. We are still waiting for a couple to come back to us.

This is just a postponement and the show will go on. I’m sorry for all the people that had planned to come down this weekend and hope you all understand that the effects of the heavy rain have left us with no choice but to change the dates.”

Organisers state that tickets will still be valid for the alternative dates and details will be posted on www.humberfest.co.uk as soon as they are available and the line-up can be confirmed.
