The Mercurymen have been confirmed to support Deacon Blue on their summer shows in Liverpool, Perth and Gateshead this July.
Heres a little bit about them:
THE MERCURYMEN
Jinder, Simon Johnson & Gavin Wyatt - collectively new Sony BMG signings The Mercurymen - have been a quiet sensation since colliding as solo artists & realising that their futures lay together.
They’ve been Mercurymen since 2006, and with their debut album due in September it’s a safe bet that they won’t be a secret for very much longer.
Trying to pin them down is almost as hard as picking up the liquid metal that gives them their name. You can hear the pop sensibility of the early BeeGees, & then the lush melodic harmonies of Crosby, Stills & Nash, but before you know it, you’re getting a dash of the Beach Boys fronted by Townes Van Zandt & a run into the nu-folk territory shared by the likes of Fleet Foxes & Bon Iver.
Whatever the influences, the end result is undeniably unique – 3 compelling singer/songwriters fusing their individual talents into one vital creative force.
And it’s no flash in the pan either. Each Mercuryman brings a very different set of experiences to the table, leaving audiences on a recent UK tour with Melody Gardot in no doubt of their potential.
An independently recorded & released EP (Keep Me In Your Heart) was released in 2007, before the The Mercurymen signed their current 4 album deal with Sony BMG earlier this year. One notable contributor to the album is Deacon Blue’s Ricky Ross, who co-wrote the song ‘Scent’ with the boys.
The Mercurymen will release their debut album in September.
