Win a full set of live CD's from the tour!
(0 votes)
Saturday, 04 November 2006

This competition is now closed.

Fancy being a music journalist for the evening and getting the chance to win a full set of live CD’s from the tour?

We have teamed up with Concert Live to offer you the chance to win a live CD by simply submitting a short review of the show you have just been to. The best review from each show will be published on this site and the lucky winner will receive their very own copy of the live CD from that show. Entries should be submitted no later than 5 days after each show.

At the end of the tour, we will pick the best of the best where one lucky winners will receive a full set* of live CDs form the UK tour.

In addition to the best of the best, all entries will also be submitted into a prize-draw at the end of the tour where everyone will have the chance of winning a full set of live CDs from the tour.

To be in with a chance of winning, all you have to do is write a few short paragraphs (no more than 500 words please) about the show as if you were a music journalist writing for the local press. Pictures would be good to accompany the text but please do remember the house rules about photography (what are they again?)!

You don’t have to be a master of the English language to win. Winning entries will be original, stylish, and most importantly passionate! The reviews don’t have to be all positive either. If there is something you didn’t like then say it – just like a journalist would.

Good luck and enjoy the shows!

*Excludes Newcastle.

Vote for your favourite song to be played round the 'campfire'!

Monday, 30 October 2006

This is your chance to hear your old favourites re-aired in a special section of each of the forthcoming live shows. Ricky tells us more:

There’s going to be a few old chestnuts revisited in the middle of the show. That’s when the band assembles round the front of the stage with a couple of acoustic guitars, a moothie and a Jupiter 8 synth sorry…accordion.

The campfire section will see Deacon Blue sit around the embers, metaphorically sizzle a sausage and a marshmallow or two and revisit some old songs we haven’t sung in a while. That’s what people do at campfires isn’t it? (you’ll have to bring your own drink)

Here’s a list of songs we’re ready to cover over the first few shows. The one with the most votes will be performed on each night, but bear in mind the short-list will change over the course of the tour.

My America
Sad Loved Girl
Plastic Shoes
Cover From The Sky
His Latest Flame (yes the Elvis song)

What 'campfire' song would you like to hear at the next show? Submit your vote on the box to the right of this page.

The first vote covers the following shows: Cambridge, Portsmouth and Newcastle.

After each set, a new list of songs will be provided and the voting reset.

“The Bootleg Goes Legit”Deacon Blue

Fans attending Deacon Blue’s UK tour, which kicks off on the 5th November, are being given a chance to purchase a recording of each concert on CD – within minutes of the last note being played!

Deacon Blue have signed an exclusive deal with instant CD pioneers Concertlive.co.uk to produce the live CDs and each show will be recorded and mixed in real time. Fans can pre-order their CD online and pick it up after the show on the night, or choose to have their CD posted instead. For those taking the CD home, they will be in the hands of the fans within 8 minutes of the last note being played and specially commissioned artwork is being created to make the CD a special collectors item. The band will also limit the availability of each concert to 400 CDs, making this an extremely limited and exclusive product.

Ricky Ross, Deacon Blue’s frontman explains why the band has chosen to offer fans an official bootleg recording of the shows:

“We’ve wanted to do this for a while now but wanted to make sure the people behind it could produce a CD that we would be proud of. Unlike an unofficial bootleg, the recording quality with these guys is exceptional, close to a retail live album and we’re sure our fans will love the concept.”

James Perkins, Managing Director of Concert Live says the Live CD service is now being embraced by the industry and his aim is for fans to be able to get the live CD of every major music concert in the UK.

‘When we launched Concert Live just over a year ago we were not expecting to create a mainstream product. We were very much aware that some labels would have difficulty justifying the service due to lack of approval of the recording. However, the fans have made it clear that they want the warts and all recording and we are delighted that artists and labels alike are now embracing the service. We are extremely excited about the forthcoming Deacon Blue tour, I’m sure the fans will react very well to the CDs.

It's early days but the team behind the instant CDs have recently toured with Keane and are signed up to go on tour with bands like The Feeling, The Raconteurs and Dirty Pretty Things. Bootlegs it seems are going legit, if you want to know more, check out the Concert Live website www.concertlive.co.uk
