Title: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: rich on April 25, 2008, 09:58:07 PM The day before my birthday will see the release of the 2007 Edinburgh DVD
2nd June 2008, a single disc more info to follow... but priced below at HMV at £10.99 http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1&sku=806590 Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: steve on April 28, 2008, 05:22:03 PM Play.com has put up a bit more information, including the track listing.
http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/5479361/Deacon-Blue-Live/Product.html I'm going to sulk now - no Bethlehem's Gate :( There's also talk of an 'accompanying live album' - don't know if that's coming with the DVD, or separately. And they have a release date of June 9th. Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: rich on April 28, 2008, 06:28:21 PM live album released 2/6/08 same tracklisting....a double album (which must exist) would have been nice, shame we don't have a straight forward full gig on the dvd as well....oh well

Post by: craig75 on April 28, 2008, 07:49:22 PM It's a real shame we couldn't have had the complete gig released. There may well be numerous reasons for this (copyright issues etc) but it's disappointing all the same. The 20 min interview is a nice extra but am I being too greedy in expecting a bit more? maybe.
The sleeve is also an interesting one, nice to see Lorraine get centre stage but is that honestly the best design and picture they could come up with? and the DB logo could/should have stayed consistent with that of the Singles album, Bigger Pic DVD and most other promotional material concerning the last two tours. Those gripes aside I am genuinely appreciative and excited by the DVD and look forward to June 9th. Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: kipperman32 on April 28, 2008, 07:54:28 PM Im a bit peeved by The One About Loneliness goin missing from the live discs again..Still Looking forward to it tho. :)

Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: granitecityanorak on April 28, 2008, 11:42:54 PM Ooo a whole 4 songs on the new DVD which weren't part of the Big Picture SECC December 1989 concerts... 19 years ago... hardly representative of the breadth of material covered and appreciated by folks in 2006 and 2007. I soooooo hope we don't have an accompanying Cd which has the exact same tracks as the DVD.
No Homesick, no Bethlehem's Gate, no All Over The World, no Day Jackie Jumped The Jail, no One About Loneliness... i.e. any non hit from 1991 or later that got played in Edinburgh has been chopped in favour of stuff thats already on the Bigger Picture DVD released in 2006 (the only exceptions to this rule are James Joyce Soles and Everytime You Sleep!) If you'd handed the Edinburgh gig tapes to Radio 2 and asked them to put together a radio broadcast they'd have probably gone with mostly material from 1987-89 and mostly singles too. The track list as given so far doesnt even hint at how inventive the last 2 tours have been and i have to say that its a pity "Walking Back Home" which was picked as a highlight of the tour by a lot of people seems to have missed out on the CD release if the info so far is correct. Having said that, the band have been playing so well in recent years that lots of people wanted that captured on a DVD or live album and i am sure the performances, recording and production will all be top drawer and an advance on the Big Picture release and that Ricky will take the view that it has been a quality control thing to limit the number of tracks rather than throw on lots of odd or less obvious choices. Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: Ads on April 29, 2008, 08:28:24 AM Quote This live DVD, and accompanying album (P3MCD018), was recorded during their sell-out 2007 tour of Europe. Did I miss this or do we count the UK and Ireland as Europe? ::) Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: steve on April 29, 2008, 10:12:48 AM Did I miss this or do we count the UK and Ireland as Europe? ::) Hmm, that's called 'marketing' I know us rabid fans would rather have an album/DVD full of obscure tracks, but if P3 actually wants to sell some copies to people on the high street, they do need to include all the big hits, and I think they've done a great job. As for a CD as well as a DVD - it will come in handy for the car. Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for a CD as well as a DVD - it will come in handy for the car. James have just finished a sold out tour on the back of a brand new album and have an arena tour following in December and have had sessions on Radio 2, a one hour edited concert broadcast from Edinburgh Corn Exchange on Billy Sloan's Clyde 1 show and an appearance on Jools Holland tonight because they are recording new stuff and mixing that with a few oldies... on the April tour they didnt play their biggest hit Sit Down at all and hardly played any songs recorded before 1991... didn't stop them selling out a tour or getting to No.10 with their new album which has sold better in a few weeks than last year's repackaging on their biggest hits 'Fresh As A Daisy'. Deacon Blue fans (or many of us) will have live versions of most of these songs on the accompanying CD from CD single releases over the years and very similar versions on the concertlive cds... would have been great if the band had recorded some of the shows concertlive didnt record and featured material from the 2007 tour which concertlive hadnt already put out... i am guessing with more time to mix the songs the official live album will manage to sound even better than the concertlive discs and the old cd singles and radio broadcasts gigs that have been booted but by restricting the choice of songs included so narrowly to the 1988-90 era the band haven't made much of a case for themselves as a band who have progressed since their commercial heyday and written great new material (which they have done consistently from 1991 onwards until the new Singles tracks) or that their live shows have moved on and got better since the Big Picture gigs in 1989. Positive suggestion so my 2 posts on this don't just read as a moan when i have no doubt the gig, DVD and CD will sound great - when not put out a limited edition collectors version of the CD to help boost initial sales where it does have some of the stuff like Homesick, Walking Back Home, Bethlehem's Gate etc? I'll finish by saying good luck to the band with the DVD and CD... I'll still be buying both as soon as they come out Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: rich on April 29, 2008, 05:56:02 PM the cd is now showing a 9/6/08 release date.
just had some more news...from p3 Hi Full details will be available at www.deaconblue.com soon but yes there is a new live DVD and CD being launched on the 2nd June and it will be distributed by Cadiz/Pinnacle. The DVD was filmed at last years show at Edinburgh Playhouse and includes all the big hits plus bonus tracks, interview with the band, photogallery and footage of soundchecks. Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: P.J. on April 30, 2008, 01:09:13 AM 'Bonus' hopefully meaning Bethlehem's Gate and some of the recent tracks will make it on. I'd also like to see some archive, Big Day, Halfway to Paradise, etc.
Great news it's coming out, but agree on initial surprise at playlist. Thought Beth Gate would make it on. Glad Your Town and ETYS did though. Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: granitecityanorak on April 30, 2008, 10:10:14 AM the mention of the dvd bonus tracks does change things! here's hoping a few album tracks and a few recent tracks feature there alongside the interview and soundcheck footage
Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: craig75 on April 30, 2008, 07:32:20 PM Dougie, I agree that would be nice but the only extra track mentioned on the play.com listing is Homesick. Would be nice if we could get the complete listing from this site, would it not?!
Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: rich on April 30, 2008, 07:35:06 PM alas i think the bonus tracks are the album tracks listed, the only other 'new' stuff will be the footage of the soundtracks....part of the 20min interview mentioned??
Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: rich on May 05, 2008, 02:11:28 PM best price found...
CD £8.99 DVD £10.99 at HMV.com Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: Neil on May 05, 2008, 11:24:43 PM Well well, the band are releasing a live album, didn't a certain lead singer say he'd never do that? lol
Some interesting comments here. I think as far as a full gig being released there is always some tracks that don't make it, the artist unhappy with the performance etc. I also think that people as in the less die hard fans get bored with long albums. And to be fair we've had 20+ live albums released via concert live, so I think we've been more than spoiled on that front. I tend to agree with Dougie about the lack of newer material, it's totally understandable from a marketing point of view. When people think of Deacon Blue it is the 87 - 89 tracks mostly that get mentioned. But I agree that in some ways it does reflect negatively, like they've done nothing since those tracks. But, I guess just like everything else we've had in recent years we should take it and be thankful. Because we all thought we'd never get to buy another Deacon Blue CD or DVD ever again. The DVD will serve as a lasting document of what a fine live band they are / were too!! Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: KatJo on May 07, 2008, 12:11:33 PM Really happy to hear the band are bringing out a Live CD as well as a dvd, like Steve said earlier it will be a good one for the car!

The DVD will serve as a lasting document of what a fine live band they are / were too!! I've bought many live albums over the years from various bands and singer but i can't think of any i've bought which are my only album by that band or singer. My point about the tracklisting is that if the singles tracks have been chosen to attract the general public and casual fans then i think P3 may be disappointed that "Live" is unlikely to be the first album a casual buyer woud look at by the band. In general live albums are bought by existing fans who go to the live shows. Anyway, Neil makes a fair point about the amount of live material made available by the band through Concert Live in the last 2 years for those of us who like the rarer material (Riches in Bristol 2006) or newer stuff. Good luck to Ricky and the band and P3 with the release Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: p3admin on May 08, 2008, 01:12:16 PM Hi
I am James Taylor from P3 Music, the management company for Deacon Blue and also the independent label that is releasing the new live DVD. This is just to say that we will only be releasing a live DVD and not live DVD & CD as previously stated. The news section of the site has now been corrected to reflect this. The reason for the confusion was that we had previously created mock-ups of both a DVD and CD to show the band and distibutors but in the end it was decided just to release a DVD. However due to our mistake details were sent out announcing a live DVD and CD. This is not the case. The DVD itself is looking and sounding great and the exclusive interview has some really fascinating insights on it. We're hoping to get some preview clips up on the site soon to give you a taster. So sorry about any confusion and we hope you enjoy the DVD. All the best James :) Title: Re: Edinburgh DVD Release date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: granitecityanorak on May 08, 2008, 04:45:39 PM A single DVD with that tracklist makes a whole lot more sense than A DVD and CD release with virtually the same tracks on both with just one exception... thanks to James / P3 for clearing up that confusion.
